We are looking for a sharp, driven intern to spend six months pushing the frontier of personalization quality in large language models.
The Distributed Algorithms and Systems group (Alistarh group) at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is searching for a paid, full-time intern to work on efficient personalization quality in large language models, building on our PanzaMail project, for six months with the possibility of an extension. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in measuring and improving LLM quality, and sufficient programming experience to implement and run experiments and evaluations. You would be joining a dynamic, quality-focused team, where your contributions and ideas will be supported and valued. Historically, former group interns have gone on to highly-competitive research positions (e.g. Ph.D. positions in top universities, OpenAI, Google, Mistral).
Necessary qualifications:
-
Working knowledge of Python and PyTorch, including the ability to read, write, and edit code without LLM coding assistants
-
Previous experience with neural network-based machine learning, i.e., large language models, computer vision, or robotics
-
Strong interest and some prior experience with LLMs and/or model quality
-
Ability to work largely independently, including implementing and running experiments using existing libraries and presenting the results
-
Proficiency in spoken and written English
-
Ability to commit to a full-time six-month internship located near Vienna, Austria
Additional desired qualifications (we will also consider candidates who have none of these, provided they meet the necessary qualifications above):
-
Experience working on model quality and running large-scale evaluations
-
Demonstrated interest in scientific research, for instance paper authorship, blog posts, previous research experience, and similar
-
Proficiency in at least one language besides English
